Lisa Umscheid practices employment law and civil litigation with Ball Janik LLP in Portland, Oregon. Before joining Ball Janik, Ms. Umscheid served as the in-house labor and employment lawyer for Metro, the regional government for the greater Portland metropolitan area. In addition to representing clients in court, Ms. Umscheid regularly provides counseling and training for clients on employment law and HR best practices.
A graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California (B.A., English, 1989), Ms. Umscheid earned her J.D. degree, cum laude, in 1992 from Willamette University College of Law. Ms. Umscheid was the Executive Editor for the Willamette Law Review. She was also the National Champion and the Best Brief Author at the 1991 National Labor Law Moot Court Competition.
Ms. Umscheid is a member of the Oregon State Bar, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. She serves as a member of the boards of directors for the Multnomah County Bar Association and the Oregon Chapter of the International Public Management Association (IPMA). Ms. Umscheid also sits on the Oregon State Bar Affirmative Action Committee, which advises the state bar on the recruitment and retention of diverse lawyers in Oregon.
